Commuting between Windsor and Detroit
If you cross every day, a few minutes saved each way adds up. Here’s what helps most.
Wait times right now
Official figures as of 2:04 AM ET. They refresh every few minutes on the live page, which also has driver reports.
What helps most
- Get NEXUS. Dedicated lanes at all three crossings, both directions. See NEXUS lanes and enrollment.
- Use a Ready Lane into the U.S. if you don’t have NEXUS but everyone in the car has an RFID card (passport card or enhanced licence).
- Set an alert. “Alert me at” on the live page tells you when your crossing drops below your limit.
- Save money on tolls with a discount account (Breakaway, NEXPRESS or the bridge’s own). Compare them on our toll page.
- Learn your crossing’s pattern on best times to cross, and check game days downtown.
Keep it one tap away
Add Border Times to your phone’s home screen from your browser’s share or menu button. It opens straight to the live times, and you can report your wait in one tap to help other commuters.
Common questions
Is NEXUS worth it for a daily commute?
For most daily crossers, yes. NEXUS gives you dedicated lanes at all three Windsor-Detroit crossings in both directions, and the card is valid for five years.
What is a Ready Lane?
A U.S.-bound lane at some crossings for drivers whose whole car has RFID-enabled cards, such as a U.S. passport card or an enhanced driver’s licence. Hold the cards up as you approach.
How do I get alerted when the wait drops?
On the live page, use “Alert me at” under any crossing to get a notification when its wait falls below the level you choose.
