Detroit Auto Show 2027: crossing from Windsor

January 14–24, 2027 · Huntington Place, downtown Detroit · Dates from the official show site, checked October 14, 2026

The Detroit Auto Show returns to Huntington Place from January 14 to 24, 2027. It sits on the riverfront a short trip from the Tunnel’s Detroit exit, so for most Windsor visitors the Tunnel is the quickest way in. Here’s how to pick a crossing and avoid the worst lines.

The short version

Which crossing to use

CrossingFor the auto show
TunnelClosest: comes out on Jefferson Avenue by the Renaissance Center. Cards only, no cash.
Ambassador BridgeA few minutes’ drive to downtown via I-75 or I-96. Good when the Tunnel is backed up.
Gordie Howe BridgeFurthest from downtown, but often the shortest line. Worth it if the other two are long.

Common questions

When is the 2027 Detroit Auto Show?

January 14 to 24, 2027, at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit. Check detroitautoshow.com for daily hours, tickets and the Charity Preview date.

What is the best way to get from Windsor to the Detroit Auto Show?

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. It runs from downtown Windsor to downtown Detroit, a short walk or ride from Huntington Place. Check the live times first; if the Tunnel is backed up, the Ambassador Bridge is the next closest.

Can I walk to the auto show from the Tunnel?

Pedestrians are not allowed in the Tunnel itself. Once you have driven or taken the tunnel bus into downtown Detroit, Huntington Place is a short trip along Jefferson Avenue.

When is the border busiest during the auto show?

Weekends and the evening of the Charity Preview bring the most extra traffic. Detroit-bound lines build in the morning and Windsor-bound lines after the show closes each night, especially if a Red Wings or Pistons game is on the same night.

What ID do I need to cross for the auto show?

A passport, NEXUS card or enhanced driver’s licence. Coming home to Canada you need the same. See our guide to border documents.
